Avanto
Club 1 is organized by the Finnish-Russian label N&B Research
Digest. The showcase is headlined by F.R.U.I.T.S., a Moscow-based
duo formed ten years ago by Alexei Borisov and Pavel Jagun, who
combine bass-heavy danceable electro with noise and absurd humour.
Benzo is an 'audio-ethnographic' project of Richardas Norvila,
a fellow Muscovite, who only uses Russian synthesizers from the
1970's and 80's, and samples Soviet music of the era. Helsinki's
own Anton Nikkilä takes apart aspects of Soviet culture and
western muzak from the 70's, and reconstructs the pieces into
music of warped beats and lyrical noise. Pink Twins, also from
Helsinki, present their version of how to force sampled melodies
and rhythms through a digital shredder and to come up with music
that is prospective rather than retrospective.
Special guests of the evening: Austrian
infra/ultrasound specialist Pomassl, one of the true pioneers
of glitch music, and Alois Huber, whom Spex Magazine has called
the "Aphex Twin of Austria".
The evening features no visuals whatsoever!
F.R.U.I.T.S., Benzo, Anton Nikkilä,
Pink Twins and Pomassl have all contributed to this year's Avanto
compilation CD, Avantometric Attachments
2002. In addition Avanto Club 1 sees the Finnish release of
the latest compilation CD by N&B Research Digest. It's called
Geologists and Professional Tourists Volume 2 and features F.R.U.I.T.S.,
Benzo, Pink Twins, Alexei Borisov & Anton Nikkilä and
9 other artists from Russia, Japan, USA, Belgium and Sweden.
