At last: hip hop at Avanto! And finally some Finnish hip hop that's experimental in more ways than just with lyrics. Dubbing Mixers have been gigging sparingly for a couple of years already, and released one CD-R and two cassettes with gorgeous hand-made sleeves on their own Tuulanauhat imprint. Comprised of Markus Koistinen, Samuli Tanner, and Gregoire Rousseau, the trio refuses to name any influences or favourites, as hard as they would be to spot anyway.
In hip hop, fat beats are everything, but Dubbing Mixers insist on tapping their faltering rhythms live with fantastic results. On top of which they scratch with cassettes and screen super-8 found footage films on flea market projectors - as if in a symbolic gesture, summarizing their status on the Finnish hip hop scene, instead of the typical verbal ego-boosterism.
